West Hollywood's new Sundance Sunset Cinemas is readying for its formal debut on Aug. 31, but a few days before members of the Redford clan will throw a housewarming party by hosting a movie-themed fundraiser for Heal the Bay.
The Aug. 29 event will feature screenings of four new specialty releases as well as "Watershed," a docu about water conservation and efforts to protect the Colorado River produced by Jamie Redford, son of Robert, and the family's Redford Center org. Jamie will be on hand for a post-screening Q&A sesh with Alexandra Cousteau, environmental advocate and granddaughter of Jacques-Yves Cousteau.
"The evening is designed to be a night of fun, but it will also empower people to take direct action to protect what they love -- be it a local creek, river or ocean," said Heal the Bay exec director Karin Hall.
"Watershed," helmed by Mark Decena, is in the midst of a roadshow of screening events around the Southwest to raise awareness of water-related public policy issues.
